MaDiPHS-annual meeting 2025: NIBIO’s Director of Research says combating pests and diseases is vital for food security in Malawi and beyond.

NIBIO’s Director of research Per StÃ¥lnacke says combating pests and diseases in crops is vital for food security, as 40-50% of crops are lost globally. If we can decrease losses, it will have positive impact on food production. That means the project Malawi Digital Plant Health Service (MaDiPHS) is very important both to Malawi, but also outside. The focus of the project is to establish a digital agricultural plant health service at the national level in Malawi, based on coordination of internationally developed digital systems. StÃ¥lnacke visited Malawi in connection with the 2025 annual meeting and said he saw great progress. He now hopes the project will continue this good development and is happy to see that discussions are ongoing on how to sustain the technologies once the project has finished.
